Pincushions

Pincushion Parade

During the month of August Instagram people are making a pincushion a day! Inspired by @tinkerellen who thought it would be fun to have a Pincushion Parade ! Use the hashtag #pinnieparade and you will see thousands of pincushion and give you some great ideas, it sure has inspired me! It would be worth making an account just to see them all. While you are there you can follow me @intheboondocks ! I follow back!

Each day, and I have missed a few, I try to do something different! Lots of different free patterns are being shared by people making pincushions. Here are mine so far. Also you can post your favorites that you have but didn't make and that is why I don't have 21. But I have had a great time!

This weekend my Grandson turned 12! Hard to believe it seems like yesterday! But the thing unusual about it is I got to see all my Grandchildren this last weekend, the one who lives in Virginia showed up with her mother and the one who lives in Kentucky came for the party!

Zoey even made me a necklace! I feel like a very blessed woman to have these three beautiful Grandchildren! Have a beautiful week!

Bella Skill Builder Month 6

For the month of July We find ourselves doing Courthouse Steps for the Bella Skill Builder Month 6! Bella Skillbuilder Quilt Month 6 - Sherri McConnell & Fat Quarter Shop! I used the Creative Grids 6" Log Cabin Trim Tool Creative Grids #CGRJAWMN6 to do my blocks but you complete this months block without it! The ruler does make it much faster and for me was well worth it! I just got another pattern to make a log cabin quilt. I love these blocks and have made them the traditional way in the past and found it very time consuming! The ruler will help you get them done in a jiffy!

Facebook: The Fat Quarter Shop now has a Facebook Group for you to share photos of your blocks with other quilters! I just signed up! I cannot wait to see the color combinations all of you are using! Join us for the fun of it!

Thread: 50wt Aurifil Dove 100% Cotton Mako Spool Thread Aurifil #MK50-2600

I am really happy the way these colors all went together! It was fun, the orange block I used my background choice (Bella Solid Ash) but on the other two I change the background to the color I was using for the blocks! I got the idea when I was looking at Melissa of Happy Quilting: Bella Skill Builder - Courthouse Steps Block blocks with two different shades of the same color! Thank you Melissa! I used three colors but she inspired me! The two smaller blocks are suppost to be the same color but I want to spread some color around!

Be sure to check out all the Bella Skill Builder Bloggers throughout the coming months for more Skillbuilder fun!

Here are all my blocks spread out together, in no order! I like all the colors!

Hope you are following along and making some of your own blocks, if you are please join the Facebook Group and Show Them Off! It would be great to see them!

Until next time! Lisa

Whats up In The Boon Docks

Blueberry Park fabric just cheers up a room! I finished quilting the blocks and turned turned them into pillows. Covered up my old and worn couch pillows. In The Boon Docks: Sewing and Family is where I wrote about making these blocks and how I did it.

I started working on this Alison Glass embroidery pattern while my daughter was in the hospital! I drew it out using the hold it up to the window method (light box) with the fabric over the pattern, using my washable pen. So, when I am all done was the ink away with a washcloth! Only problem it gets kinda wrinkly. If I iron it the steam it my take away the drawing.

My Floss Story

Knowing I would not have a sewing machine available for 2 weeks I packed projects I could work on in the hospital! I packed this pattern and a variety of Aurifil Thread weights. I was going to do this project with all Aurifil Floss, but somehow the floss bag got left at home. Instead, I only had 12 wt., 50 wt., and 80 wt., so I used what I had! I am very happy with the results so far! The different textures can really be seen!

This is what I use to keep my threads in when traveling! On our trip to the hospital I grabbed the Aurifil 80 wt instead of floss! But it worked out great!

Until next time! Lisa

I saw this on Instagram @fatquartershop today and thought this is so me! Do you sew with your shoes on or off? I just have to feel the pedal with my toes to get my speed right!

Snail Trail at the FQS

The quilting was a family affair David and I each did part since it was from us. I made him work for his credit in the gift. Plus, it makes me very happy to have this picture! If you sew you understand what I mean.

Here is a better look at the fabrics.

I wanted to have baby eye catches so that she would have things to look. The turles are one of my favorites!

You are going to love this pattern! It is available from the Fat Quarter Shop - Check out the free Snail Trail block pattern here!

This beautiful girl is Lilly at 2 weeks old!
